GF Laser and Moseley Brothers working together, what services can we provide?

GF Laser and Moseley Brothers work together on numerous projects to provide customers with a complete solution where multiple parts are required that have different manufacturing processes.

Customers are able to deal with their single preferred point of contact at either company who will oversee the project from start to finish.

Working with GF Laser and Moseley Brothers customers can utilise the following manufacturing processes:

FLATBED LASER CUTTING: GF Laser operate multiple flat laser cutting machines around the clock for high and low volume production of metal parts up to 4000mm long and 2000mm wide.

5 AXIS LASER CUTTING: GF Laser offer prototype and 5 axis laser cutting for profiling pressings, extrusions, formed tube and spinnings. All holding jigs and checking fixtures are manufactured in house to ensure each part is produced as accurately as possible.

PRESS BRAKE: Using standard or bespoke tooling, GF Laser can fold parts up to 3000mm long using one of their 100 tonne Amada press brakes.

TOOLMAKING: Moseley Brothers are one of Europe’s most experienced Press Tool Manufacturers, with the capability to design and manufacture press tools as well as project manage the process from start to finish.

CNC MACHINING: Operating small and large bed CNC’s Moseley Brothers offer drilling, tapping and machining for tool manufacture and on a sub-contract basis.

PRESS PRODUCTION: With a range of presses from 75 to 500 Tonne with a 3200mm bed size Moseley Brothers sister company MB Presswork can offer presswork on a relief and production basis. Parts can be produced by both coil feed and single operation as required.

QUALITY APPROVALS: Both companies are approved to ISO 9001 and are working towards the latest TS standard which they are hoping to have implemented in the early part of 2018. PPAP’s, ISIR’s and customer specific inspection reports can be produced using CMM or Laser Inspection.

By offering such a wide range of processes GF Laser and Moseley Brothers can easily cater for customers who require, for example, multiple parts which they then assemble in house. The two companies also have storage facilities so are able to hold safety stock for customers whilst still delivering to customers using supply solutions such as JIT or KANBAN.

Presses raise Moseley Brothers capacity

Tapping into the expertise and capabilities of a specialist press supplier has helped a Dudley manufacturer secure a string of new automotive wins.

Moseley Brothers, a leading press tooling and production specialist, has invested more than £500,000 into the purchase of two large Chin Fong presses that will help it increase its capacity, speed and ability to take on orders for more complex components.

The company purchased the machines from Stourbridge-based Worcester Presses, who were able to specially configure the machines with bespoke guards, a large press bed and seamless integration into the existing Tomac coil handling line.

They are already producing various pressed components for several leading car manufacturers and it is anticipated that more than £1m of orders can be fulfilled every year on the 500 and 400 tonne presses.

John Hickman, managing director of Moseley Brothers, said: “We moved to our new site in Dudley last year, as part of a £2.5m investment and recognised the need to update our press capability. Our relationship with Worcester goes back more than a decade, so we invited their technical team in to discuss our requirements and then present the best possible solution to meet those needs.”

He continued: “The answer was two state-of-the-art Chin Fong presses, one a GTX-500 tonne and the other, a GTX-400. Both are straight-side double-crank presses, which have given us a significant increase in shut height (to 1000 mm) and bed width (3200mm).

“This has already reaped dividends with new contracts secured to supply larger automotive components. With our pipeline of presswork orders set to grow by 20% in the next 12 months, the increased speed and capacity we now boast is essential.”

The Moseley Brothers investment has contributed to a record year for Worcester Presses, with turnover doubling to £2.8m in just twelve months.

At the heart of this growth is a commitment to delivering outstanding customer service and access to one of the largest ranges of mechanical and hydraulic presses and coil handling equipment in the UK.

“Companies come to us because of the quality of the presses we supply, whether they are our own, Chin Fong or Yeh Chiun. They also like our ability to tailor equipment to suit their specific requirements and our attention to detail when it comes to installation and training staff to get the most out of their investment,” explained Russell Hartill, sales director at Worcester Presses.

“We can also put in place preventative maintenance and servicing packages, so that equipment remains as effective as when it is first purchased and, in this particular instance, we offer Moseley Brothers 24-hour breakdown cover to ensure any downtime is minimised.”

Moseley Brothers on the move to Dudley

A Tipton company that makes pressings and press toolings is moving its main operation to Dudley. Moseley Brothers, which dates back to 1919, has bought a 33,000 sq ft factory on Blackbrook Valley Industrial Estate.

The £2.5 million expansion plans will see the company, which also supplies specialist engineering services, grow its national and international presence.

The company’s automotive clients include Jaguar Land Rover and it also exports to countries including Germany, South Africa, China and Mexico.

It is set to make the move from Vaughan Trading Estate in Sedgley Road East later this year.

The expansion is being completed with support from accountants Chantrey Vellacott, the Black Country Local Enterprise Partnership’s Regional Growth Fund  – accessed through Sandwell Borough Council – and funding from Lloyds Bank.

Moseley Brothers managing director John Hickman, said the expansion to larger premises would significantly boost turnover and see the firm add to its 47-strong team.

“We’ve outgrown our current home and a move just three miles up the road is a perfect solution for us as it will not only give us much more space but also vastly reduce our infrastructure costs through owning our own premises,” he said.

“We’ve enjoyed strong growth in our business over the last few years, both domestically and internationally, and we envisage the move helping us to raise our turnover from £3.5 million to around £5 million.

“The move will further strengthen our press tooling, repair and modification services and initially we’ll be creating around ten new skilled and semi-skilled jobs as part of the expansion.”

The company serves automotive clients such as Jaguar Land Rover and exports to countries including Germany, South Africa, China and Mexico.

It is set to make the move from its current base in Tipton later this year.

Sister company GF Laser, a laser cutting specialist, will also be relocating to the new site.

The expansion is being completed with backing from The Black Country Local Enterprise Partnership’s Regional Growth Fund (RGF) – accessed through Sandwell Borough Council – and funding from Lloyds Bank.

It is being supported by regional accountancy firm Chantrey Vellacott.

Paul Fenner, a partner in the Birmingham office of Chantrey Vellacott, worked with Moseley Brothers to support the RGF application and finance around the deal.

He said: “It’s extremely positive to see a Black Country manufacturer expanding its operations on the back of its success and creating new jobs.

“Moseley Brothers has established a strong presence and reputation as a leading manufacturer of press tooling and press production, both domestically and globally, and we’re pleased to be supporting the firm with these exciting developments.”
